The start of ressurection or destruction of Federer?

Finally, the US open is back, but more importantly a very crucial tournament for Roger Federer. Last year no one would have thought that Federer would lose Wimbledon let alone not even win a single major. But as the games have been played and Nadal has been winning, we have seen probably the turning point in Mens Tennis.

The physical presence of Nadal has clearly dominated the wizardry of Federer during the course of the year. Now we have reached the final battle ground where the wounded Federer, if the fate has it, will take on the mighty Nadal. It would be Federer's last chance to redeem his pride in a very lacklustre year. Is Federer capable of of beating Nadal and the others and eventually win the title? I dont think there will be too many who will doubt that. But after a disappointing year such as 2008 would he have it in him to win it? Well that we can only wait and see.

So who will win the US Open title this year? Every tennis fan might have this question in their mind, so lets examine a few things. Roger Federer has the biggest reproteur of shots in him, whereas Nadal has the best physicality. It is only natural that we focus on the top two men in tennis as the last few years have been witness to the domination by the legends. But there is always a chance that there will be a thrid that will come and beat the two men. At Australian Open, Djokovic won the title while very few would have ruled out Federer, and then there was Wimbledon.

On hard court Djokovic can also be a challenge as he has over the years improved his overall skills. Nadal is always physically present at the court so over a period of five sets he will always be the favourite. As Nadal has won the Wimbledon and shown us that he has something that goes beyond the clay and he can go the extra mile on other courts, so to say that Nadal would have a problem on the hard courts. He has now proven that he can travel the extra mile to beat the best. Then Federer can ofcourse win it. The main problem with him this year has been that he has made too many errors by his standards. It was not due to someone elses greatness that Federer was brought down, it was because of his own weakness, with his footwork and a lot of unforced errors. If he improves on his errors then he will again be the man to beat, but till then it will be Nadal that will instil fear in the other players.

By losing matches on a comparatively more regular basis, Federer has sent a negative message to his challengers. This will motivate them further to come out and beat him as he has shown that he, like every other man is not invincible. So we now wait and enjoy the 2 weeks of wonderful tennis the lies ahead of us.
