After seeing the start of the Premier League season, I now believe that Chelsea are the favourites for the Premier League crown. Chelsea even in the first few weeks of the season have shown that they can be both skilful and attritional. In their first game of the season Chelsea showed how creative they really can be by producing a breathtaking display of attacking football, beating portsmouth 4-0.
In their second game of the season they won 1-0 against Wigan. This was a completely different performance. It seemed to lack the attacking flow of their previous performance, yet they still managed to grind out the win. It was like Chelsea of old under Jose Mourinho able to grind out a result. I think the key player for Chelsea this season will be Portuguese international midfielder Deco. He brings an extra dimension to the chelsea midfield. He has already provided proof of his worth by scoring two goals in his first two appearances for the Blues.
Chelsea's main rivals Manchester United will have to work very hard to beat Chelsea to the title this season. United are currently very low on first team personnel and will miss Cristiano Ronaldo's influential performances. My fear for United is that by the time Ronaldo is back Chelsea will have got into a winning groove and will be difficult to halt. Both teams lack extra strike power though.
Whatever happens in the coming season though its sure to be interesting and sure to take some very interesting twists and turns along the way. Arsenal and Liverpool will believe they also have a chance of claiming the Premier League crown but I don't think they will have the quality to challenge Manchester United or Chelsea.
